Meet Cosmina, our active colleague who pedals her way to work with enthusiasm. She inspires us to embrace alternative transportation methods, fostering a healthier, more sustainable future.
When did you start working for Vitesco Technologies? What role do you have in the company?
It all started 7 years ago when I was accepted for an internship position in the Hardware Verification group. After 2 years, once I had finished my studies, I continued as a hardware engineer. Today, I am responsible for hardware products in mass production.
What inspired you to start biking to work?
Since my true passion is sport, I live this value every day of my life. This means that I use a bicycle every day to get to work, as well as for trips and relaxation. Additionally, in the city where I live, there are many advantages to using a bicycle instead of a car - no parking space needed.
How commuting by bike impacted your daily routine?
Well, over time, I realized that people are often tempted to choose convenience, but this is not always the best choice. "Rush hours" are not a problem for me, which I think is the biggest advantage; I do not have to plan to leave the house when it is less crowded to get around. So, I never arrive at the office in the morning feeling nervous because I lost time in traffic or could not find a parking space. If I want to go somewhere, I just get on my bike and go.
Have you encountered any challenges related to biking to work? If so, how do you manage them?
Yes, of course, there are challenges too. The first and most important one is the infrastructure. Unfortunately, there are areas where the dedicated cycling lanes are lacking, so sometimes I have to ride my bike on the sidewalk, sometimes on the street. It is indeed stressful, but the only thing I can do is to be careful and not use headphones when I ride my bike in the city.
What aspects of commuting by bike do you find most fulfilling?
For me, it is a healthier way to start the day - it burns some calories and boosts the metabolism, and it is also less stressful, which is an important aspect. One of our goals in life should be to reduce stress as much as possible, and I think riding a bike helps with that.
How would you encourage a colleague to start biking to work?
Well, by the power of example, of course! It also helps our environment. There is only one planet we live on, and we should take care of it, regardless of our profession.
